Tariq Ismail Ahmadani

Tariq Ismail Ahmadani is a senior Pakistani Saraiki writer, poet, folklorist and researcher whose work focuses on the language, culture, traditions and literary heritage of the Saraiki region.

Ahmadani has written extensively about Saraiki culture from literary, anthropological and cultural perspectives. His work documents traditions and practices that are increasingly at risk of disappearing, including folk sayings, proverbs, folk dance, marriage customs, traditional beliefs and other elements of everyday cultural life.

One of his notable works is Saraiki Lok Bayania, published by Saraiki Publications, Rasulpur. The book presents a broad study of Saraiki cultural life and includes writings on contemporary Saraiki writers as well as folklore, traditional practices and cultural customs.

The book is divided into sections dealing with cultural documentation, criticism and research. Ahmadani discusses figures including Ashiq Buzdar and Sufi Taj Gopang, while also examining folk sayings, proverbs, Jhummar, marriage rituals and religious superstitions.

His research also explores traditional cultural objects and practices. Among his writings are discussions of the turban, local customs, flora and fauna in the poetry of Khwaja Ghulam Farid, and traditional practices found in the region.

Ahmadani has also worked as a poet and translator. His creative work includes his own poetry, literary sketches and translations, including a translation of a short story by Franz Kafka.

His contribution to Saraiki literary research was recognised when Saraiki Lok Bayania received the Khwaja Ghulam Farid Award for the National Literary Awards 2015. The award was presented for the book's contribution to Saraiki literature.
