Ghazi Khan Mirani

Ghazi Khan Mirani was an early ruler of the Mirani dynasty and the historical figure after whom the city of Dera Ghazi Khan was named.

The official history of Dera Ghazi Khan records that the town was founded by Haji Khan and named after his son, Ghazi Khan, who succeeded his father. Ghazi Khan died in 1494, according to the date recorded on his tomb at Chirotta.

The Miranis established their authority in the region during the late fifteenth century. Their rule became an important part of the early political history of the area between the Indus River and the Sulaiman Range.

Ghazi Khan's name became permanently associated with the settlement that developed into modern Dera Ghazi Khan. His tomb at Chirotta is recognised as a historical site by the Government of Punjab.

The Mirani rulers continued to exercise authority in the region for generations. Their period of rule eventually came to an end as political control over the area shifted during the Mughal and later Afghan periods.

Today, Ghazi Khan Mirani remains an important historical figure in the story of Dera Ghazi Khan, with the city's name preserving his connection to the region for more than five centuries.
