Dilshad Kalanchvi was a prominent Pakistani Saraiki and Urdu writer, poet, novelist, literary critic, researcher, translator and linguist associated with the literary tradition of Bahawalpur.

Born Ata Muhammad on 24 May 1915 in the former Bahawalpur State, Kalanchvi developed a lifelong interest in language and literature. He later became associated with Government S.E. College Bahawalpur and The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, where he served as a professor.

Kalanchvi made important contributions to the development of Saraiki prose. Academic research identifies him as an early and influential prose writer, particularly in the field of Seerat writing in Saraiki. His works on the life and character of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) include Jadan Rasool Kareem (SAW) Ko Nabuwat Mili and Rasool Kareem (SAW) De Mojze.

His literary interests extended well beyond Seerat literature. He wrote on Saraiki language and prose, literary history, criticism and linguistics. His book Saraiki Aur Us Ki Nasar examined the development of Saraiki prose, while Qadeem Saraiki Shair Tay Adeeb explored earlier Saraiki poets and writers.

Kalanchvi was also a novelist. His Saraiki novel Saray Sagan Sohagrey is associated with the Bahawalpur literary school and presents aspects of the culture, traditions and social life of the Saraiki region, including the Rohi and Cholistan environment.

He contributed to the study of Saraiki language and lexicography as well. Academic research on the development of Saraiki dictionaries lists Dilshad Kalanchvi among the local scholars who contributed to the development of Saraiki lexicographical work.
